Jakarta..Here i Come..

I hd gone thru a hectic yet exciting schedule last week.. for da third time i step my foot on foreign soil.. wut a great feeling..finally.. i had the chance to cherish 'Jakarta'..

I had been greated by a moderate yet bz airport when i reached Jakarta.. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport..no hectic event compared to my visit to Medan in 2005.. So, it was a great first impression..

By the time i jumped into the car, its already 2.50 p.m (Local Time)..feel great..it was my first experience travelling in Toyota Innova..cool car with a spacier and moderate interior..Then, i met my first nightmare.. The traffic jam..the local called it 'machet'... (After a few days i hd realise that the traffic jam are unavoidable scene in Jakarta).. Just imagine, it took me almost 2 hours for a journey less than 45 miles...

When i checked into the hotel..i'm a lil bit shocked.. for one night stay in a 3-stars rated hotel, it will cost you .. 300,000 Rp. equivalent to almost USD 40 (Excluding breakfast).. Anyway, I still paid the amount though..Furthermore, you credit card won't assist you a lot since the hotel will required you to pay a deposit of USD 200 for two nights stay..and they will straight away deduct the amount from your card..(weird right)..by the time u checked out, they will return the deposit money - room rate for 2 nights in CASH!!.. just imagine, suddenly u've to carry around a few hundred thousand rupiah in your pocket..funny..

I don't have any leisure time in Jakarta bcoz i was there to attend several business meeting..so, my travelling time (mostly stucked in traffic jam) is the time which i fully used to observe the local way of life..

Jakarta has 5 major province with 5 mayors and more that 15 milion population..with an ever increasing daily cost of living, the local has to depend solely on themselves to gain food or money..the government did helps but 'very' limited assistance..this is one of the cities which i could see the rich become richer and the poor people left unattended.. fortunately, indonesian people is born to be a fighter..their creativity is something to be proud of..they have skills in wooden craft, art, reflexology and other things that u might thing impossible.. Eventhough i could say that more than half of the pupulation stays in a shelter less than 60 square feet, (Under bridge & road flyovers, abandon building, along railways) yet, I could rarely meet a beggar..I did respect those people..

But, there also people who love to gain money the easy way..thru sex industry..the oldest industry in the world.. you could 'chater or rent' a very nice looking lady for one night from as low as USD 30 to USD 2,000.. and what make it worse, it's a common way of life even to the muslim..(If you knew the right source).. Still.. I dun blame them.. In a place with limited job offers..that might b the only thing that they could think of..to gain a penny..
